Jack Dromey MP Working hard for Birmingham Erdington

Today, Jack Dromey spoke in the House of Commons calling on the Government to introduce short time working arrangements to protect jobs and businesses.
Similar arrangements have been made across Europe in an attempt to prevent business collapses and job losses, with various European Government’s stepping in and supporting businesses financially during the uncertainty caused by Coronavirus.
Jack Dromey said:
“Today, I raised the issue of short time working with the Government. In the face of the Coronavirus outbreak it is essential that we protect jobs across our economy, particularly in the manufacturing sector.
“We have seen examples in Europe, particularly in Denmark, of Governments, Trade Unions and Employers Associations coming together to make alternative working arrangements in the face of this economic crisis. The first priority of the Government must be to protect our citizens from this virus where possible, but it must also make every effort to protect employees from redundancies and businesses from collapse.”
