Jack Dromey MP Working hard for Birmingham Erdington

Jack Dromey MP has today called on the Government to extend the scope of the financial support they are offering to cover the self-employed.
Currently, the Government support only covers workers who are employees, and not the 5 million people in the UK who are self-employed. The only support available to people who are self-employed is to claim Statutory Sick Pay, which equates to £94.25 per week.
Jack Dromey MP said:
“Clearly the current measures in place to support those who are self-employed through the Coronavirus crisis fall well-short of what is required. While employees get 80% of their wages paid, those who are self-employed are only currently entitled to Statutory Sick Pay of £94.25 per week. This cannot be right.
“I campaigned hard to secure the offer to businesses and workers that was announced on Friday, and I will now work just as hard to secure the future of those who are self-employed. I am calling on the Government to go much further than they have currently and provide a comparative offer to those who are self-employed as they did to workers who are employees.”
